Lost Soul Aside PS5 1

Lost Soul Aside developer UltiZero Games will be hoping to pull a No Man's Sky as it works to update and improve its rather mediocre PS5 action game released a few months ago. That all begins tomorrow, 18th November 2025, with a comprehensive patch that adds a new mode and a handful of extra features to the base game.

The headline addition is a new mode called Surge of Voidrax, which has you fighting through 100 waves of enemies of increasing difficulty in a test of "endurance and strategy". The four weapons from the base game and the entire skill tree are unlocked for you in the mode, and you'll earn resources to craft new cosmetic rewards after clearing certain waves.

Bosses and enemies from the campaign will test your combat skills, and in between waves, you can visit Liana's Shop to stock up on health items, upgrades, and increase your Arena Power. "Surge of Voidrax isn’t just a mode; it’s a true test of skill, strategy, and perseverance. How far can you go?"

The base game is also being enhanced with new options and features, detailed below via the PlayStation Blog:

  • Skip the prologue

Eager to experience the core action immediately? Now you can choose to skip the Prologue, jumping directly into the fight and immersing yourself in the exhilarating combat system of Lost Soul Aside.

  • Voidrax Pathfinder helps with navigation

Stuck on complex puzzles or challenges? The new Voidrax Pathfinder guides you directly to objectives or helps unlock puzzles, letting you explore at your own pace.

  • New skins

Personalize your look with a variety of new appearances, including customizable “X” weapon accessories, classic Crystal weapons, and stunning armor and knight costumes—perfect for crafting your own signature style.

  • Improved cutscenes

Cutscenes have been completely revamped! We enhanced character expression animations for more lifelike emotion, improved global lighting and shadow effects to heighten the atmosphere, and added environmental voice lip-sync animations. Together, these upgrades deliver a truly cinematic storytelling experience.

The studio then details a few more technical improvements included in the patch:

  • Customizable controls, allowing players to tailor button layouts to their preferences.
  • Refined core combat actions like rolling and double jumps, with fine-tuned skill feel for weapons like the Scythe and Greatsword—making combos flow effortlessly.

"From the extreme challenge of Surge of Voidrax to personalized experiences with the Voidrax Pathfinder, and polished cinematic storytelling to a wealth of new appearances, this update is packed with sincerity, aiming to present a richer, more engaging gameplay experience in Lost Soul Aside," said game director Yang Bing.

These updates and improvements will work to build on a PS5 title we called "awesome and painfully awkward". In our Lost Soul Aside PS5 review, we awarded a 6/10 score and criticised its poor characters and performance issues. "We could overlook a lot of these flaws if the action was truly tip-top, but even the combat stumbles in the face of spongey foes and a frustrating lack of weight. Lost Soul Aside is an admirable attempt at aping the greats of its genre, but it just doesn't have the same edge as its inspirations."
